| Mission |
The
mission of the Alliance is to bring about personal, organizational
and planetary sustainability through support of projects that
are ecologically sound, economically viable, socially just and
humane. The Alliance for Sustainability is a Minnesota-based,
tax-deductible nonprofit supporting model sustainability projects
on the local, national and international levels.
The Alliance accomplishes its work by bringing together diverse
businesses, government agencies, academic institutions, religious
organizations, nonprofits, community groups and individuals in
support of sustainability. It has helped promote sustainability
education and training through The Natural
Step and has developed partnerships and projects with a wide
range of groups. The Alliance has numerous publications
and a comprehensive Sustainability Resource
Center that is open to the public. |
| History |
The
Alliance for Sustainability was founded in 1983 as the International
Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture by leaders and groups from
around the world. It brought together a diverse group of farmers,
consumers, business leaders, environmentalists, development workers,
educators and scientists who shared a common vision: The worldwide
realization of sustainability with a focus on sustainable agriculture--
food and agricultural systems that are ecologically sound, economically
viable, socially just and humane. Click to learn more about our
background , definition
of sustainable agriculture and the accomplishments
of our organization.
Given its successes in sustainable agriculture, the Alliance
broadened its mission in 1998 to incorporate all aspects of sustainability
and became the Alliance for Sustainability with the International
Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture as a project. Click to learn
